One bottle, a dozen jobs: what liquid castile soap can do around your house

July 15, 2026

If you've only ever thought of castile soap as "that stuff in the big bottle at the health food store," pull up a chair. We make our liquid castile right here in Ashland in small batches — olive oil and coconut oil, saponified the slow way, nothing else but water and (if you like) a little essential oil. It's one of the most versatile things we sell, and folks are always surprised at just how many jobs one bottle can handle.

In the shower, it's a gentle body wash that rinses clean without stripping your skin. A dime-size squeeze on a washcloth lathers more than you'd expect — a little goes a long way, which is why even our 8-ounce bottle lasts most people a good while. The unscented version is our pick for sensitive skin and for little ones; lavender and peppermint are the crowd favorites for everyone else.

At the sink, it makes a lovely hand soap. Mix one part castile with three or four parts water in a foaming pump bottle and you've got a refill that costs a fraction of the store-bought stuff. Same trick works in the guest bath, the workshop, and the garage.

In the kitchen, a few drops in warm water cuts grease on dishes, wipes down counters, and cleans produce — rinse well and you're done. Because it's a true soap rather than a detergent, it plays nicely with septic systems and gray-water setups too.

Around the house, dilute it for mopping floors, spot-cleaning upholstery, or washing the car. Campers and hunters love it because one bottle covers body, dishes, and gear — and it's biodegradable, so it's kind to the creek you're camped next to.

A few honest notes from the soap bench: castile and hard water can leave a film, so if your water is very hard, add a splash of vinegar to your RINSE water (never mix vinegar directly with the soap itself — they cancel each other out). And skip it on color-treated hair unless you follow with an acidic rinse.

We bottle our castile in five sizes, from an 8-ounce try-it bottle up to a full gallon for the serious refillers — and you can pick your scent right on the product page: unscented, lavender, or peppermint. Planning a big batch of foaming-soap refills for the holidays, or want a custom scent for your shop or event? We do custom-scented batches on request — just ask.

It's honest soap at honest prices, and it works as hard as you do. Start with the 8-ounce and see where it takes you.
